By way of influence, my work with deep color owes something to my studies of Latin American artists and contemporary Americans. My exploration of color and abstraction is influenced by Hilma af Klint and my expressions of texture are influenced by painters like Jack Whitten and Claude Monet, so that a painting cannot be reproduced adequately in a webpage. In person, my work expands on qualities intrinsic to painting, a third dimension that plays with light in a way specific to the media of paint.
My paintings further my interest in colors and emotions as a means to communicate with the viewers’ sensibilities.
My photographs also have a painterly quality. Often using medium format, I forego sharpness for color and personality.
My prints let me use line to express feelings through form. The return to line, like the drawings of Kerry James Marshall, add depth to my perspective when I return to paint.
